A 2nd Thessalonian Letter by Jay Quine

Paul Writes from Corinth A.D. 51

While remaining in Corinth (Acts 18:11), and shortly after writing his first letter, Paul heard more news from Thessalonica. In response, he wrote a second letter to comfort and instruct the Thessalonians who were confused by some who taught in Paul’s name that the tribulational day of the Lord was upon them.

Chapter 1 Past Hardship

Paul comforts the Thessalonians by writing that God’s appraisal of them to endure hardship is right, as confirmed by their growing faith, love, and patience in the midst of personal trouble (1:1-10). Paul still prays for them to be worthy of their calling and to continue to glorify the name of Christ (1:11-12; cf. 1:5).

Chapter 2 Future Tribulation

Paul reminds the Thessalonians that the judgmentassociated with the day of the Lord (also known as the Tribulation), from which they will be saved, is a future event which is associated with unprecedented rebellion and the appearance of the Anti-Christ.

Chapter 3 Current Expectant Living

Paul exhorts the Thessalonians to pray and work hard as Paul modeled when he was with them, because God is faithful to grant them grace and peace.

What Quine sees as the Key Verse: 2 Thessalonians 3:1-2

“Finally, brethren, pray for us that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you; and that we may be delivered from perverse and evil men; for not all have faith.”
